ST. LOUIS (AP) ? Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay left his start against the Cardinals after two innings, matching the second-shortest outing of his career.
The team had not revealed why Halladay, a two-time NL Cy Young winner, was replaced.
Halladay surrendered the fifth grand slam of his career to the Cardinals' Yadier Molina in the first inning, but worked a perfect second getting groundouts from pitcher Adam Wainwright, Rafael Furcal and Skip Schumaker.
Halladay's shortest outing was two-thirds of an inning Sept. 10, 2006, at Anaheim when he was with Toronto. He worked two-plus innings May 9, 1999, against Texas, giving up four runs and eight hits and was knocked out by four consecutive hits to start the third.
It was 90 degrees at game time, which may have been a contributing factor.
