Stratfor in a statement shortly after midnight EST (0500 GMT) said the release of its stolen emails was an attempt to silence and intimidate it.

It said it would not be cowed under the leadership of George Friedman, Stratfor's founder and chief executive officer. It said Friedman had not resigned as CEO, contrary to a bogus email circulating on the Internet.

Some of the emails being published "may be forged or altered to include inaccuracies; some may be authentic," the company statement said.

"We will not validate either. Nor will we explain the thinking that went into them. Having had our property stolen, we will not be victimized twice by submitting to questioning about them," the statement said.

WikiLeaks did not say how it had acquired access to the vast haul of internal and external correspondence of the Austin, Texas company, formally known as Strategic Forecasting Inc.

Hackers linked to the loosely organized Anonymous hackers group said at the beginning of the year they had stolen the email correspondence of some 100 of the firm's employees. The group said it planned to publish the data so the public would know the "truth" about Stratfor operations.

Stratfor describes itself as a subscription-based publisher of geopolitical analysis with an intelligence-based approach to gathering information.

WikiLeaks and Anonymous maintain the emails will expose dark secrets about the company. Stratfor said in its statement it had worked hard to build "good sources" in many countries, "as any publisher of global geopolitical analysis would do."

In December, hackers broke into Stratfor's data systems and stole a large number of company emails.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Reuters: "Here we have a private intelligence firm, relying on informants from the U.S. government, foreign intelligence agencies with questionable reputations and journalists."

"What is of grave concern is that the targets of this scrutiny are, among others, activist organizations fighting for a just cause."

Friedman, the chief executive, said on Jan. 11 the thieves would be hard pressed to find anything significant in the stolen emails.

"God knows what a hundred employees writing endless emails might say that is embarrassing, stupid or subject to misinterpretation. ... As they search our emails for signs of a vast conspiracy, they will be disappointed."

COLOR SCHEME: ?Choosing the color scheme was the easy part since the countertop that goes with this cabinet only came in black or brown.?My first thought was to do a black and white bathroom, but after receiving the sample of the Mocha Gold countertop, we knew this was the first choice and would go on from there. ?The counter material is cultured marble with an intigrated white sink. ?I am the ultimate Glitter Girl, so when I saw the glittery gold fleck in it I was sold and ordered the top right away. ?

Once we decided to go with a brown countertop for the vanity, we left behind the black and white color scheme we had decided on and went in a different direction. ?

TILE: ?Didn't think choosing a tile for the bathroom would be so hard. ?We found it to be a much larger task than we thought. ?First, there were several tiles we liked, but were out of our price range. ?Secondly, this is a permanent decision, once the tile is installed, we won't be changing it again in my lifetime. ?The next decision that was firm was the wall tile for the shower area. ?It was very unusual and I think it will look fabulous with the high gloss white cabinets and the price was just within our reach. ?It has a pearly shine and really glows when the light hits it:

Exoplanetary systems show signs of even more dynamical rearrangement, from migrated giant planets to violent dynamical ?cooling?, in which young worlds can be ejected wholeheartedly into interstellar space. These rogue worlds, or ?nomads? really do exist, gravitational microlensing surveys have picked up the tell-tale brightening of distant stars that can only be produced by a population of small dark planetary bodies drifting around in the Galaxy. There are twice as many of these Jupiter-sized or larger objects than there are normal stars in the Milky Way. That is an awful lot of planets alone in the dark.

Except they don?t necessarily stay alone. A rather intriguing new paper by Perets & Kouwenhoven investigates the likelihood that planets ejected into interstellar space by their parent systems (again, as part of planet-planet gravitational interactions during early stages of system formation) might be captured later on by other stars, meekly taking up a place at the edge of the orbital table in these systems. If a lot of planets are ejected from their original systems then re-capture probabilities can be as high as 3 to 5%, which may not sound like much, but if the stellar cluster has 1000 members that?s a decent number, and if we extrapolate to the Galaxy as a whole that would mean a lot of ?re-purposed? planets lurking around the outskirts of stars ? including binaries and stars with their own pre-existing planetary systems.

This can help explain some of the current direct imaging detections of planet-scale bodies in extremely large orbits (100 astronomical units, and further, from the star), which are otherwise quite a challenge to account for in standard planet formation models. It also makes an intriguing prediction that nomadic planets can be captured by stellar remnants ? like white dwarfs, and particularly black holes, whose high mass increases the odds of planet capture.

Given the relatively weak binding of these nomads to their adoptive stars it also seems possible (in my opinion) that some of them might even end up being ejected yet again, drifting through interstellar space, and then once more taking up with another system along the way ? at least during early times while the stellar grouping is denser.
