Presidential race has become two-man: Romney versus Obama
Mitt?Romney?s chances of winning his party?s nomination increase daily. He's reframing his campaign to take on Barack Obama, who's also approaching full-campaign mode with an eye on Romney.
The Republican presidential contest seems to have come down to a two-man race, and we?re not talking about Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

In his speech at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. Friday,?the former Massachusetts governor made clear who he now sees as his main competitor for the White House.
"Barack Obama and I have fundamentally different visions for America,"?Romney said as he stumped for Tuesday?s winner-take-all primary in Wisconsin. "He spent the last three or four years laying the foundation for a new government-centered society. I will spend the next four years rebuilding the foundation of our opportunity society, led by free people and their free enterprises."
In essence, Romney may not be doing the full Etch-A-Sketch, but he is reframing his campaign toward November?s general election.
In his speech Friday, Romney focused on the economy, which he sees as his strong suit.
"President Obama did not cause the recession but he most certainly failed to lead the recovery,? Romney said, pointing to lost jobs, poverty rates, home foreclosures, and Obamacare, which he said ?discouraged small businesses and health companies from hiring new workers.?
"For the first time since World War II, our national debt is greater in size than our entire United States economy," Romney said.

Exclusive: Hawker Beechcraft readies bankruptcy ...

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hawker Beechcraft Inc, the aircraft manufacturer owned by Goldman Sachs Group Inc's (NYS:GS - News) private equity arm and Onex Corp (TOR:OCX.TO - News), is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection in the next several weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.
Hawker, which was bought by the private equity firms in 2007 for $3.3 billion, is negotiating a prearranged bankruptcy with its largest lenders, which include Centerbridge Partners, Angelo Gordon and Capital Research & Management, the sources said.
Hawker and Onex declined to comment. Goldman Sachs and the lenders were not immediately available for comment.
Centerbridge, a New York-based investment firm focused on leveraged buyouts and distressed investments, is the biggest lender, the sources said.
These lenders would also likely provide debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing to allow Hawker to continue to operate in bankruptcy, the sources said.
One of the sources said the DIP financing is currently expected to be less than $500 million, but cautioned the number has not been finalized and could change.
Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, the bank's private equity fund, and Canada's largest buyout firm, Onex, bought Raytheon Aircraft Co from Raytheon Co (NYS:RTN - News) in early 2007, at the height of the buyout boom, and renamed it Hawker Beechcraft.
But the purchase has proven to be ill-timed. The financial crisis of 2008 and the subsequent economic downturn has led to a multiyear aviation industry downturn. The Wichita, Kansas-based manufacturer of business jets, general aviation turboprops and military trainers has seen sales of its small and medium-sized business jets fall.
Hawker competes against bigger and financially stronger rivals such as General Dynamics Corp's (NYS:GD - News) Gulfstream and Textron Inc's (NYS:TXT - News) Cessna.
Hawker is one of several buyouts from the 2006-2007 period to run into trouble. Several private equity firms at the time paid aggressive prices for companies, loading them up with huge piles of debt and hoping that economic growth would continue to sustain the investments. But the financial crisis put a spanner in their assumptions about growth, making these firms unviable.
TURNAROUND SPECIALIST
In February, the company's owners brought in turnaround specialist Steve Miller as chief executive officer. Hawker has also hired Perella Weinberg Partners and law firm Kirkland & Ellis LLP as financial and legal advisers.
Miller, who is also chairman of bailed-out insurer American International Group (NYS:AIG - News), is known for his ability to work with financially troubled companies and solve hard problems, even earning the moniker of "The Turnaround Kid" after he wrote a book in 2008 about his experiences fixing companies over the years.
Miller has come out of retirement several times to work on corporate restructurings, including those of Delphi Corp and Federal-Mogul Corp (NSQ:FDML - News).
On Tuesday, Hawker clinched interim financing. It reached a deal with lenders that will provide a $120 million loan and defer the company's obligations to make certain interest payments.
This forbearance agreement, scheduled to expire at the end of June, would provide Hawker with more time to finalize the details of a prearranged bankruptcy with the main lenders, the sources said.
DEBT LOAD
Hawker has a huge debt load stemming from its 2007 leveraged buyout and was hit especially hard by a 60-percent drop in business jet sales after the financial crisis, said aerospace analyst Richard Aboulafia of the Teal Group.
A source familiar with Hawker's thinking said that the company's business plan had projected a recovery in the business jet market beginning in 2010, but that had only started to materialize this year.
Earlier this year, Hawker lost a contract to build 20 light attack planes for the U.S. Air Force, losing out in the bid to U.S. defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corp and Brazilian planemaker Embraer SA (SAO:EMBR3.SA - News).
Although the loss was not the primary factor driving the company into deeper trouble, winning the contract could have staved off the crisis for a while longer, said two other sources familiar with the situation.
The loss of the contract "was just bitter icing on an already unpleasant cake," Aboulafia said.

Wolfgang Gartner Uses Miami Music Week As His Lab
New song 'We Own the Night' with Tiesto 'going to be one of the biggest tracks of the year,' Gartner tells MTV News.

MIAMI — MTV News was invited by our colleagues at Pacha NY to take in Wolfgang Gartner and some of his most talented artist friends Saturday at the National Hotel for one of the premiere parties on South Beach, where he was determined to give the crowd his full arsenal of new music — and take in their reaction.
An all-star cast of DJs — including Bart B More, Kill the Noise, Felix Cartel, Porter Robinson and Hardwell — worked the crowd for Gartner, who seemed elated the second he hit the stage. His set let everyone know he was fired up.
Gartner was genuinely excited to tell MTV News he has more than a half-dozen songs ready for release, but he's not planning to unveil most of those anytime soon. He said he loves playing his creations while they're still unrecognizable, so he can gauge the crowd's reaction. That invisible interaction with the crowd energizes him, he told us, and Miami Music Week and parties like the one he threw at the National give him the perfect lab to test his creations.
"When people respond to it when they don't know it, that's when you know it's good," Gartner explained. "But if you get that same response when nobody's ever heard it before, that's when you know it's real. You've got something."
During his set at the National, Gartner played one song he won't be able to keep in the bin much longer: "We Own the Night," his collaboration with Tiësto featuring the subtle enchantment of Luciana on the vocal, contradicting the edginess and power of the track. The song's a big one — with no better evidence than the frenzy that ensued around the National pool party once the crowd felt the bass drop and the beat kick in full torque.
"The Tiësto collaboration is definitely the one that I'm most excited about," Gartner said. "We've both been playing it out, and judging by the response, we both — I'm going to try and sound humble — but we both think this going to be one of the biggest tracks of the year."
Tiësto played it to nearly 50,000 on Friday at Ultra Music Festival, where somewhere in the middle of it all, MTV News can testify to the joy of the crowd. Gartner also played it to a huge crowd the night before at Ultra's Korea World Stage, and told us the reaction was undeniable. But, more importantly, playing new music is what drives him to make your next Wolfgang Gartner experience — like the one that erupted at the National pool — that much better.
"That's the main thing that I want to hit on: Expose people to new music, and give people a little taste of what's coming up," he shared. "People all over the world, all over the country, I want people to know that they're getting something that's to come."

BofA to offer rentals as foreclosure alternative
NEW YORK?? Bank of America says it has begun a pilot program offering some of its mortgage customers who are facing foreclosure a chance to stay in their homes by becoming renters instead of owners.
The "Mortgage to Lease" program, which was launched this week, will be available to fewer than 1,000 BofA customers selected by the bank in test markets in Arizona, Nevada and New York.
Participants will transfer their home's title to the bank, which will then forgive the outstanding mortgage debt. In exchange, they will be able to lease their home for up to three years at or below the rental market rate. The rent will be less than the participants' current mortgage payments and customers will not have to pay property taxes or homeowners insurance, the bank said.
"This pilot will help determine whether conversion from homeownership to rental is something our customers, the community and investors will support," Ron Sturzenegger, legacy asset servicing executive of Bank of America, said in a statement.
Among requirements to qualify for the program, homeowners must have a BofA loan, be behind at least 60 days on payments and be "underwater," owing more on their mortgages than their homes are worth.
The bank based in Charlotte, N.C., said it will at first own the homes, then sell them to investors. If the program is successful, it could be expanded to include real-estate investors who buy qualifying properties and keep the occupants on as tenants.
"If this evolves from a pilot into a more broadly based program, we also see potential benefits from helping to stabilize housing prices in the surrounding community and curtail neighborhood blight by keeping a portion of distressed properties off the market," Sturzenegger said.
Foreclosure tracking firm RealtyTrac says foreclosure activity has picked up in some states, as banks deal with a backlog of homes with mortgages that had gone unpaid yet remained in limbo due to delays stemming from foreclosure-abuse claims, according to
Nevada has the nation's highest foreclosure rate as of last month, with one in every 278 households in the state receiving a foreclosure-related filing, twice the national average, according to RealtyTrac. Arizona ranks third behind California, while New York has not been as hard hit, with one in every 4,604 households receiving a foreclosure-related filing.

The top commander in Afghanistan said Thursday he prefers a robust U.S. combat force of 68,000 in 2013, signaling a potential halt in the drawdown and complicating any effort by President Barack Obama to accelerate the timetable after more than a decade of war.
"My opinion is that we will need significant combat power in 2013," Marine Gen. John Allen told the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Pressed by the panel's top Republican, Sen. John McCain, on whether a force of 68,000 would be sufficient, Allen said, "Sixty-eight thousand is a good going-in number, but I owe the president some analysis on that."
In his second public hearing on Capitol Hill this week, the commanding general of the war in Afghanistan argued that the war can still be won, and he warned that a withdrawal of coalition forces would create a vacuum in the region.
"Should the U.S. leave Afghanistan, should ISAF, NATO leave Afghanistan, that would create in my mind, for all intents and purposes, a geopolitical vacuum," Allen said, as the Afghan National Security Forces prepare to take over responsibility.
Allen's comments represent a marker for the military. Obama faces increasing political and public pressure to accelerate the timetable after more than 10 years of fighting and recent incidents that dealt a major setback to the fragile U.S.-Afghanistan relationship. Afghan outrage over the burnings of Qurans and a shooting spree that left 17 Afghan civilians dead have been blamed on Americans.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, tried to get Allen to admit how much money the U.S. will have to pay to fund the Afghan National Security Forces over the next decade, but Allen said he could not say. He did acknowledge that the current annual cost to fund the ANSF's 352,000 troops is between $4 billion and $5 billion, but the entire annual revenue for Afghanistan is only $2 billion, so the international community will be helping the Afghans for some time.
Allen said he remains optimistic that the war can still be won.
"If I didn't think it was do-able I would tell you, and I would tell you very quickly because I wouldn't want to spend another life in this fight if it wasn't do-able," Allen said.
Asked later by Sen. Lindsey Graham whether the current strategy in Afghanistan represents "the last best chance for success in Afghanistan," Allen said quietly, "I concur with that, senator."

Nonprofit: North Korea orchestra plans to visit US
ATLANTA (AP) ? An Atlanta-based nonprofit is planning to bring North Korea's national orchestra to the U.S. for a tour that would start in Atlanta, according to the group's president.
The North Korean National Symphony Orchestra would bring 164 musicians and journalists for an 18-day visit that would also include stops in Oxford, Miss., and New York, said Robert Springs, the president of Global Resource Services, a humanitarian group that works in North Korea.
He said he hopes the visit will take place in the spring but the details are still being worked out and it awaits government approval. Springs has scheduled a press conference on Thursday to release more details about the trip. The U.S. State Department did not immediately comment.
Springs' group has sent three musical groups to North Korea over the last 14 years, including Christian rock group Casting Crowns.
"The hope is that we can better understand the people of North Korea and that they can better understand us," he said. "And that could lead to more normalized relations."
The deal comes amid encouraging signs that ties between the U.S. and North Korea could be warming.
Both nations announced an agreement last month that calls for Pyongyang to freeze its nuclear activities and allow U.N nuclear inspections in exchange for food aid. But Washington said the North's recently announced plans to launch a satellite on a rocket could jeopardize the deal.
A U.S. tour by North Korean musicians would take place four years after the New York Philharmonic performed in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital, in January 2008 ? a historic cultural exchange between musicians from two nations that remain enemy states.
Korea was split at the end of World War II into the communist North and the U.S.-backed South. The two sides fought a three-year war that ended in a truce in 1953 but has left the Korean Peninsula divided by a heavily fortified border. The U.S. still has more than 28,000 troops stationed in South Korea.
North Korea has sent a flurry of recent cultural exchanges. The South Korean conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra landed in Pyongyang in February to rehearse with North Korea's Unhasu Orchestra. The Unhasu Orchestra performed a landmark concert with a French orchestra last week in Paris.

Burke states that after a screening of the film, it is clear why White and Laine are offended and even resentful. When he hired the girls, Burke did not tell them that the film was meant to demonstrate methods of mind control. "If I had told them what I was up to, it would have ruined the whole experiment," Burke said with a devilish grin on his face. For about 50 minutes, audiences see the girls reacting to Burke, but it is through voiceovers and subtitles, added later in the editing phase of production, that Burke reveals which mind control techniques he is using and shows us how the girls' behavior falls right in line.
